The Oklahoma Alliance on Aging sends this information as posted below:
“I look forward to speaking at Senior Day at the Capitol again this year,” said Lt. Governor Pinnell. “Oklahoma is home to almost 900,000 adults age 60 and over, and these seniors are an important demographic in our society. I hope that senior adults from across all 77 counties will come to the Capitol and make their needs and priorities known.”
Senior Day will take place on Monday, March 11, 2024.
Events will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with sign-in at the second-floor rotunda. Volunteers and signs will guide the way. The Senior Day session in the House chamber, fourth floor, begins at 10:00 am.
After colors are presented by The Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard and a prayer is offered by Oklahoma Elder, Artist, and traditional Cheyenne Chief, Gordon Yellowman, several state legislators have prioritized greeting Oklahoma’s Seniors.
The line-up includes a welcome to the Capitol by Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell. Following the Lt. Governor, Speaker of the House Charles McCall will welcome everyone on the House Floor and Gallery. We are honored to have leadership from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, including State Director Dr. Deb Shropshire and CAPS Director Jeromy Buchanan.
While in the House Chambers, attendees will hear from Oklahoma Senators and Representatives about legislation they have authored and are moving forward during the current sessions. Participants are also encouraged to visit the legislators in their offices and meet their staff for contact information so they can follow up with them later. Everyone is invited to take a guided tour of the renovated Capitol. Seniors will also visit nonprofit and government agencies’ exhibitor booths on the second-floor rotunda providing a wide range of information about senior needs and issues and their services. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. at the State Capitol, 2300 N Lincoln Blvd. Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
The event is free to attend. All are welcome.
Individuals and groups planning to attend are encouraged to register on the Oklahoma Alliance on Aging website’s events page, but it is not required.
