Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) sends this information as posted below:
Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) still has free, full-day pre-kindergarten (Pre-K) seats available for students who turned four on or before September 1, 2024. The district has space to accommodate four-year-olds residing within district boundaries as well as the ability to welcome those in surrounding communities where their home districts may be at capacity. OKCPS does not have waitlists or lotteries and is inviting families to transfer in and join the OKCPS family!
We plan seats for every child and have more learning structure and more qualified teachers.
“Pre-K offers incredible benefits that can set the foundation for lifelong learning, and our free, all-day Pre-K program is designed to give students the best possible start,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Jamie Polk. “This year’s incoming Pre-K students, the future Class of 2038, were born during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we understand that some families may feel hesitant about sending their little ones to school. However, we want to assure them that our high-quality program is led by wonderful teachers who are dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential. We believe that families are the first and most important teachers in a child’s life, and OKCPS is committed to working alongside each caregiver to provide support and empower them to be active participants in their child’s education.”
“Children who attend Pre-K are set up for success through the experiences they have throughout the grade in hands-on, play-based learning. We take for granted as a state how rare access to free, high-quality pre-K is across our country,” said Dr. Stephanie Hinton, Executive Director of Early Childhood at OKCPS. “Pre-K is not an anomaly; it is evidence that real teaching and learning can happen when teachers and classrooms are supported with low teacher-to-student ratios, materials and supplies for hands-on learning, age-appropriate standards and curriculum, and the space to do the work.”
Schools with available Pre-K seats can be found here.
