The City of Oklahoma City and the ACLU of Oklahoma send this information as posted below:
Renters, landlords and the community are invited to a training on tenants’ rights at the Human Rights Commission’s March 26 meeting.
Adam Hines with the ACLU of Oklahoma will present the training, “Tenant Know Your Rights.” The free training and HRC meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. on March 26 at City Hall, Third Floor Council Chamber, 200 N. Walker Ave. It’s open to all ages.
The training will help attendees answer some of the most asked housing issues tenants face, including:
- When and how can my landlord evict me?
- Does my landlord have to allow my service animal?
- When can my landlord raise the rent?
- What are the legal duties of a landlord?
“The HRC is excited to host the ACLU of Oklahoma, who will provide a Know Your Rights Training for Tenants,” Ward 2 HRC Commissioner Cindy Nguyen said. “In a state with one of the highest eviction rates in the nation, we hope this educational forum will empower tenants to exercise their rights to advocate for fair and safe living conditions.”
Hines joined the ACLU of Oklahoma as a Skadden Fellow in 2023. His fellowship aims to address housing inequities in Oklahoma. Before joining the ACLU of OK, Hines interned with Still She Rises as a John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellow and conducted a study of Oklahoma’s housing courts with the Oklahoma Access to Justice Foundation. He also worked as an extern for the Hon. Judge Robert E. Bacharach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
