PRESS RELEASE: Friends of the Metropolitan Library and Library Endowment Trust Create Childhood Literacy Fund

The Metropolitan Library System sends this information as posted below:

The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System and the Library Endowment Trust have joined forces to create a transformative Childhood Literacy Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF). Together, the organizations contributed a combined $1 million to the fund—$500,000 from the Library Endowment Trust and $500,000 from the Friends of the Library. Their efforts were further amplified by a $250,000 matching gift from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, bringing the total fund to $1.25 million.

The Childhood Literacy Fund is designed to provide sustainable community funding to support childhood literacy programs for generations to come. The fund’s creation demonstrates the shared commitment of these organizations to ensure that children in our community have access to essential literacy resources and opportunities.

The fund will help support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program at Metropolitan Library System, which provides free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. This program fosters a love of reading and builds the foundation for lifelong learning and success.

“The creation of the Childhood Literacy Fund is a testament to the power of partnerships and community support,” said Jason Kuhl, CEO of the Metropolitan Library System. “We are incredibly grateful to the Kirkpatrick Family Fund for their generous match and to everyone who has contributed to making this dream a reality. Together, we are building a brighter future for children in Oklahoma County.”

The Friends of the Library and the Library Endowment Trust invite the community to join this impactful mission by contributing to the fund. Your support will help ensure that children in our community have access to the resources they need to thrive.
