Cabinetmaker turned artist to install 7-foot-tall sculpture this Thursday on Linwood Blvd.
Stillwater native and artist Morgan Robinson works primarily with wood and metal. After finishing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Central Oklahoma he worked as a custom cabinet maker for five years. The cabinetry helped refine his woodworking skills. Robinson furthered his skills in Japan by learning traditional woodworking methods. He focuses on merging Eastern philosophies of minimalism and sculptural form into beautiful artistic statements.
Robinson will install a 7-foot-tall sculpture made from stainless steel with a powder-coated exterior finish on the Linwood Boulevard median near N Brauer Avenue. The sculpture is titled “Crossroads”.
Artist Statement: “I aim to create a sculpture that highlights the Metro Park Neighborhood’s resiliency and vibrancy, sharing a piece of myself just as the community has built up the area through the creation of a sculpture park along Linwood Boulevard. The sculptural form intertwines and grounds itself with two separate connecting pieces, meant to represent the unity of family and extended community. I hope this sculpture can convey the Metro Park Neighborhood Association’s hope to share beauty and optimism in the community for all to enjoy.”
This project was selected by Metro Park neighbors and made possible by the City of OKC’s Strong Neighborhood Initiative, funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program. Public art contributes to revitalization and is intended to provide beautification spaces unique to the neighborhood.
