Martin Park Nature Center, 5000 W Memorial Rd., is a hub for nature exploration and education for visitors of all ages.

The 144-acre nature park offers guided hikes, education programs and an interactive learning center. See a few surprising class offerings below.

Smartphone Photography

Martin Park is holding its Smartphone Photography Class at 10:30 a.m. on March 30 for ages 18 and up. Learn how to capture the beauty of nature with your cellphone. This class will go over key terms, options your phone has and situations where you may need to adjust your phone camera settings. After the short lesson, City staff take you to the trails where you can try out your newly learned skills.

Archery for Beginners

People ages 10 and up can discover the exciting sport of archery with Martin Park’s beginners’ archery class at 1 p.m. on April 4. Participants will learn how to safely handle bows and arrows while learning archery’s dos and don’ts.

Registration required. A parent or guardian must attend with their child, and all archery equipment will be provided. Archery Games

Martin Park’s Archery Games are being held April 4 at 2:15 p.m. The Park provides all the equipment, including bows and arrows, so you only need enthusiasm and a competitive spirit.

Kayak Safari

Get ready for an exciting adventure on the water. Join Martin Park Nature Center staff for a journey on the North Canadian River at 9 a.m. April 13. Kayakers will explore the beautiful Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge and search for native wildlife.

Whether you’re an experienced kayaker or a beginner, the expert staff will provide everything you need for a safe, enjoyable experience, including kayaks, paddles, PFDs, and instruction. Please note the kayak weight limit is 300 pounds.
