PRESS RELEASE: April 1 runoff set between Pennington and Pettis, Jr. for OKC Ward 7 representation

Ward 7 candidates Camal Pennington and John A. Pettis, Jr., will face off in a runoff election on Tuesday, April 1. Ward 7 is primarily located in NE Oklahoma City.

Polls will open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1. To find your polling place and view a sample ballot for your precinct, use the OK Voter PortalEMBARK bus and OKC Streetcar service is free on all routes on election day to help voters get to the polls.

The councilmembers begin four-year terms on April 29.

The Ward 7 council seat was previously held by former Councilwoman Nikki Nice, who was elected to represent Oklahoma’s Senate District 48 and took office in November 2024. Councilman Lee E. Cooper, Jr. was appointed to serve the ward until the new councilperson takes office.

The nonpartisan Oklahoma City Council has nine members: the mayor, who is elected citywide, and one member from each of Oklahoma City’s eight Wards. They serve part-time as the head of the City’s council-manager form of government. The mayor’s annual salary is $24,000, and each councilmember’s annual salary is $12,000.
