Police investigate man found dead at carwash as homicide

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man was found dead earlier in May at a carwash near Northwest 122nd Street and North Pennsylvania Avenue. Police now believe the case is a homicide.

The death makes homicide #24 for 2025.

Officers responded at 12:36 p.m., Friday, May 2, to the business at 2012 NW 122nd St., where they discovered the body of Douglas Eugene Smitherman, 48.

SSgt Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said in a press release that Smitherman had “injuries consistent with homicide.”

The investigation remains in its early stages, and no arrests have been made. No suspects are in custody.
