One woman found lying in southside OKC roadway dies at hospital

OKLAHOMA CITY — One woman was pronounced dead Friday night at a local hospital after having been found lying in the roadway in the 5700 block of S. Shields Blvd.

And, while several news outlets are calling the situation a “hit-and-run,” police say that right now they don’t know what was the cause or circumstance of her death.

Lt. Jeff Cooper with the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) told Free Press that 911 started receiving calls around 10:30 Friday night about “something in the roadway.”

Once at the scene, they found a woman lying in the street and showing signs that she had been run over at least once and maybe multiple times.

That could mean that she was a victim of a hit-and-run crime.

However, when we asked Cooper if they thought her being there in the first place was because of a hit-and-run or because she was dumped there or passed out there and then was run over, Cooper would not confirm any of those scenarios.

“We don’t know how many cars hit her,” said Cooper. “At this point, we don’t have any suspects or vehicle informaton at all.”

Some news outlets have been reporting that she may have been homeless but Cooper would not confirm that to Free Press, either.

We will continue to update this story as we are able to confirm reliable information.
