One dead, one injured in Eastside OKC shooting on street

OKLAHOMA CITY — In what will be Oklahoma City’s latest homicide, one young man is dead and another is being treated at a local hospital both from a shooting Tuesday.

Multiple police vehicles were present in the parking lot of a small row of storefronts at NE 23rd and Lottie Tuesday afternoon as crime scene specialists and detectives started processing the scene of the shooting.

Two young men of unknown ages were walking down the sidewalk around 1:45 PM near the intersection when a man walking on the north side of the street “produced a firearm and opened fire on both of them,” MSgt Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department told the gathered news media at the scene.

Knight said that one was declared dead at the scene and the other was transported to the hospital with “non-life-threatening” injuries.

The one dead victim was still in the parking lot of the stores on the north side of the intersection as two officers watched over the body waiting for the scene to be processed.

The names of the two victims were either not known or not revealed by police at the scene.

Free Press observed some people outside the crime scene tape who seemed distraught by the shooting and were being comforted by friends.

We chose not to try and interview them while they were grieving and respect their heartbreak.

Knight said that not much else is known at this time.

“There must be witnesses with such a busy street along here in the middle of the afternoon,” said Knight. “We need anyone with information to call the Homicide Tip-Line at 405/297-1200.”
