Oklahoma City — Jesus Flores, 42, of Oklahoma County, was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm after a prior felony conviction, U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced.
According to public records, on May 30, 2024, Oklahoma City police responded to an assault report. Officers learned Flores had been cut off on the highway, chased the other driver down, and shot them in the head. The victim survived.
Police later found two firearms in Flores’ child’s diaper bag. A federal grand jury indicted him on Sept. 5, 2024, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Records show Flores has prior felony convictions in California for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and inflicting corporal injury on an intimate partner.
He pleaded guilty on Dec. 17, 2024, admitting he knowingly possessed the firearms.
On March 17, 2025, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell sentenced Flores to 92 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, citing the need to protect the public.
The State of Oklahoma was also pursuing charges against Flores in Oklahoma County District Court for this incident but released him to federal custody for prosecution. Once he has served his federal sentence he will be returned to state custody for prosecution.
Homeland Security Investigations and Oklahoma City Police investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacquelyn M. Hutzell prosecuted.
This case is part of Operation 922 and Operation Shots Fired, initiatives under Project Safe Neighborhoods, the Department of Justice’s effort to reduce gun violence. Operation 922 focuses on firearms offenses linked to domestic violence, while Shots Fired targets cases involving gunfire in criminal activity, such as drive-by shootings and violent disputes.
