OKLAHOMA CITY — A detainee at the Oklahoma County Detention Center (OCDC) or Jail died at a nearby hospital after she could not be revived early Monday morning.

Michelle Young, born March 18, 1996, was found “unresponsive” in her cell at 3:50 AM Monday.

She would have turned 29 on Tuesday.

According to Mark Opgrande, OCDC spokesperson, surveillance video shows that guards made a sight check on her at 2:51 AM.

Once she was discovered in her cell, Young was administered “lifesaving measures” first by an officer, then by OCDC medical staff. She was administered several doses of NARCAN and CPR was continued until EMSA and the OKC Fire Department arrived to take over.

EMSA arrived at the hospital with her at 4:30 AM. Young was then declared dead at 4:46 AM, said Opgrande.

Young had been booked into the Jail on February 13, 2025.

The detainee death is the third for the OCDC in 2025.

Per protocol, all deaths in the Oklahoma County Jail are investigated as homicides by the Oklahoma County Detention Center until the Oklahoma Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death.
