OKC Police identify suspected killer of Oklahoma County Deputy

OKLAHOMA CITY (Free Press) — The person suspected of killing an Oklahoma County deputy and seriously wounding another deputy Monday has been identified by Oklahoma City Police detectives.

Benjamin Harrison Plank, 35, DOB 08/21/1987, was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center or Jail late Monday at 8:51 p.m. after spending the afternoon and evening being processed and interviewed by Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) detectives.

After shooting two Oklahoma County Deputies, he led OKCPD officers on a long chase from the southwest side of the City where the shooting occurred to a gate at Tinker Air Force Base on the far east side of the City.

Both Sgt. Bobby Swartz and another deputy were rushed to the OU Medical Center where Swartz died and the other deputy was taken into surgery. By the end of the day the other deputy’s condition had been upgraded from “serious” to “stable.”

Police exchanged gunfire with Plank during the chase. Eventually, police cornered him at the Tinker gate where they arrested him.

Plank was booked on the following complaints:

  • Murder in the first degree – one count
  • Shooting with intent to kill – one count
  • Assault and battery with dangerous weapon – one count
  • Use of a vehicle in discharge of a weapon – one count

Bond was denied for all complaints.
