OKC man booked for murder of elder mother

OKLAHOMA CITY — A 76-year-old woman was shot and killed in a northwest Oklahoma City apartment Sunday. Her adult son is being accused of murder.

Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were sent to 5340 NW 42nd St., Apartment 18 Sunday afternoon at 2:17 PM to investigate reports of a shooting.

When they arrived they found Connie Smith, 76, dead appearing to have been shot to death according to MSgt. Gary Knight with OKCPD.

The woman’s son, 48-year-old Shane Smith, remained at the scene where officers took him into custody. After being interviewed at Police Headquarters, he was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a complaint of first-degree murder.

The death is being counted by OKCPD as the 50th homicide for Oklahoma City in 2023.
