OKLAHOMA CITY (Midtown) — One person is dead and four more are injured after a shooting some time around midnight during New Year’s Eve celebrations near N.W. 10th and Robinson.

One more victim has been added to the count since this story first ran.

Police confirm that the 911 call came in about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1.

UPDATE: The Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) has now identified all four victims. They are:

  • Victim (Deceased): Daniel Howard (DOB:11/13/2000)
  • Victim: Anthony Thomas (23)
  • Victim: Lamar Johnson (25)
  • Victim: Jason Caruthers (26)
  • Victim: Evan Richmond (20)w

Police believe that a fight broke out between a group of people in the Sunset Patio Bar on the corner of N.W. 10th and Hudson. They were thrown out of the bar.

The group then moved to the back parking area just north of Fassler Hall next door. It was there that the shooting took place.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene once police arrived. At least some of the four others were bystanders, police now believe.

The Associated Press has identified the deceased Howard as having been a defensive back for Fort Hays State in Kansas in the Spring of 2022 after playing for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before transferring to the Kansas school. He was a standout football player from Millwood High School in northeast Oklahoma City before moving on to the two colleges.

When Free Press surveyed the scene midday Sunday, three areas of the parking lot had what appeared to be blood from victims with discarded, opened medical supply packages strewn around each. The areas were grouped within a 30-foot area on the east end of the parking lot.
