Mishandling of firearm believed to be cause of 1 OKC death

OKLAHOMA CITY — A southside OKC man is dead after he was shot Friday early afternoon.

Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to a business at 1237 SE 29th Street Friday at 2:08 PM in response to a shooting.

When they arrived, the found Alfredo Sanchez, 18, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Sanchez was transported to a local hospital where he died.

From their initial investigation at the scene, police believe that Sanchez and another individual “were handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged, striking and killing the victim,” said MSgt. Gary Knight in a press release.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police ask anyone with information to call the Homicide Tip-Line at 405/297/1200.
