OKLAHOMA CITY — (UPDATED July 6) — In a street fight on Oklahoma City’s west side Friday afternoon, June 28, a man was stabbed to death.
Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of NW 23rd and MacArthur Friday at 4:57 PM, responding to reports of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they found a dead man at the scene. The death is now counted as homicide number 41 for the City of Oklahoma City in 2024.
Police released the name of the victim on July 5. He is:
- Allen Williams, 39
From interviews at that time, officers believed that the dead man and another man, identified as William Avila, had been fighting near the street when Avila “produced a knife and stabbed the other to death,” according to MSgt. Gary Knight in a press release.
Suspect booked
Avila ran away as the first patrol officers arrived at the scene but was captured “a short time later,” according to Knight.
Police so far have not specified what type of wounds Avila had from the fight but he was transported to an area hospital.
UPDATE — Avila was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of First Degree Murder and Assault on a Police Officer after he was released from the hospital on July 3. A $10 million bond has been set.
Police urge anyone to call the Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1200.
