OKLAHOMA CITY — Illnesses have caught up with metro Oklahoma City school districts, some to the point that they are sending students and teachers to remote learning or just closing on Friday, January 31.
Okla City Public Schools
The biggest district, Oklahoma City Public Schools, announced that they will be doing remote learning on Friday.
The district sent out these instructions: Due to widespread illness, all OKCPS schools will transition to distance learning tomorrow – Friday, January 31 – while district teams thoroughly clean and disinfect the buildings.

All after-school activities will continue as planned unless otherwise notified by a staff member, sponsor or coach.
Edmond Public Schools
Edmond Public Schools announced that they will be closed on Friday with no mention of remote learning.
They will resume school on Monday.
Piedmont Public Schools
Piedmont Public Schools in the far NW OKC metro were closed on Thursday and will be closed again on Friday.
A message on their Facebook page said that the closures were due to, “a significant increase in illness among staff, substitute teachers, bus drivers and students.”

Mid-Del Public Schools
Mid-Del PS is moving to remote learning on Friday. The district’s Facebook page has instructions:
“Please note that the Mid-Del Technology Center will continue to have in-person instruction. This decision also has no effect on previously scheduled extracurricular activities.”
Putnam City Schools – UPDATE
On Friday the public information officer for Putnam City Schools notified Free Press that principals were allowed to close individual schools according to staffing issues from illness.
