Firefighters rescue two from burning home in NW Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — A house fire in northwest Oklahoma City threatened the lives of two people who were stuck inside until firefighters rescued them.

Both were taken by EMSA to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns. One remains in the hospital because of the severity of their burns.

Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCPD) crews were dispatched to 6301 N.W. 82nd Street at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday and were told on the way what part of the home some victims may be.

Two of the four people in the home at the time made it out quickly due to being alerted by smoke alarms. Two others in the home did not.

When firefighters arrived at the residence, they could immediately see flames coming from the east side of the home and “a rescue group was quickly deployed,” according to a press release.

An adult male was pulled from the home and was immediately treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and “minor burns.”

The second victim, an adult female, was located by firefighters and extracted through a window. That individual “sustained smoke inhalation and more significant burns,” according to OKCFD officials.

Both were treated at the scene and also taken to the hospital for further treatment. The female was still in the hospital as of Wednesday midday.

Firefighters found no one else inside.

Investigation continues

Wednesday afternoon, the missing window from the bedroom with the most damage revealed a completely burned out room and a burned opening completely through the ceiling and the roof overhead, allowing daylight to stream directly in.

By mid-afternoon Wednesday, fire investigators had already left red “fire evidence” tags on two electrical outlets in the bedroom.

Daylight could be seen through the ceiling and roof from damage caused by the fire.

Fire officials suspect “electrical issues” but the “cause of the fire could not be conclusively determined.”

The property and contents were valued at $333,500 with an estimated loss of $90,000.
