Early voting for special election on Marijuana begins Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Thursday marks the start of early voting for the March 7 Special Election across the state. Every eligible voter will have the chance to vote on a state question. Some voters will also be presented with county questions and local propositions.

The only item on the ballot for most counties statewide is State Question 820 asking voters if they will approve the establishment of the sale of marijuana for recreational purposes and “generally legalize, regulate and tax adult-use marijuana under state law.”

In-person absentee voting, sometimes known as “early voting,” will take place on Thursday March 2 and Friday, March 3, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. There will be no Saturday early voting in this election.

Absentee voting in person does not require a reason, but you must vote at an early voting location in your registration county. Locations, dates, and times for early voting are listed on the website of the State Election Board.

Voters who requested absentee ballots by mail are reminded that the County Election Board must receive their ballots by 7 p.m. on election night.

Normal absentee ballots (yellow affidavit) may be submitted by mail or handed by hand to the County Election Board. Standard absentee ballots must be received by the close of business on Monday, March 6 if hand delivered. Hand-delivered “standard” absentee ballots must be accompanied by a notarized absentee ballot affidavit and delivered by the voter. Identity verification is necessary.

Via the OK Voter Portal, voters are able to view a sample ballot for the March 7 election. The election list is published on the website of the State Election Board. On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for voters.

Contact your county’s election board if you have any questions.
