Del City Police Dept awarded for completing leadership program

DEL CITY, Oklahoma — The Del City Police Department’s entire command staff has received an award for completing a demanding and innovative leadership training program.

Monday, Jacques Battiste, Executive Director of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA), presented the Agency Trilogy Award to Chief Loyd Berger and the rest of the command staff at the Del City Council meeting.

“I want you to know, you’ve got no finer department than what’s here,” Battiste told the Council members and Mayor Lloyd Eason.

The FBI-LEEDA program is a highly interactive three-part leadership series spanning almost five days that educates police leadership teams on topics such as diversity and inclusion, bias, public trust, transformational leadership, social and emotional intelligence and more.

The Agency Trilogy Award equips law enforcement agencies worldwide with skills to evolve their departments and the communities they serve.

“The Del City Police Department is committed to investing in educational opportunities for our staff to better serve the Del City community, and we are proud to earn this award,” said Austin Slaten, Assistant Chief of Police in a press release. “FBI-LEEDA’s leadership training is already yielding positive results within our department, and we look forward to applying this knowledge in our everyday service in the community.”

The program’s methodology is a “cops talking to cops” approach being led by seasoned law enforcement leaders from across the U.S. who bring their diverse backgrounds, expertise, and practical strategies to the classes.

Battiste closed his presentation by telling the City Council that coming to the Oklahoma City metro had special meaning to him because his first assignment as a new agent out of the FBI Academy was to be sent to the Oklahoma City field office to join the investigations connected to the Oklahoma City Bombing.
