City looking to hire trade positions during Feb. 13 hiring event

The City’s next one-stop hiring event on Feb. 13 will offer interviews for technical positions such as building maintenance mechanics, irrigation technicians, industrial electricians and industrial heat and air mechanics, elevator and electrical inspectors and plant operators. The City will also host in-person testing for Animal Welfare Officer positions.

Interested candidates should apply online by Feb. 11 and attend the downtown event from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 420 W Main St. On-site applications are welcome for all positions except Animal Welfare Officer I. You must apply by Feb. 11 and be invited to test at the hiring event because of testing procedures.

Most of these technical trade positions require certain types of licenses. Interested applicants should make sure they have the appropriate certifications/licenses before coming to the event. This information can be found in the job descriptions.

Applicants should bring a state-issued photo ID, be prepared to interview and start the background check process. The entire process may take several hours, depending on turnout.

Validated parking is available at the Sheridan-Walker Public Parking Garage, 501 W Sheridan Ave. Take a ticket to enter the parking garage. City staff will provide a validation ticket at the event.

About the full-time positions

Employees perform various tasks related to the care and upkeep of shelter animals, such as feeding, exercising and cleaning. They also educate, counsel and exchange information with the public. Must be willing to euthanize and dispose of animals. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator) to qualify.

This position requires a multiple-choice test. To take the test at the hiring event, you must apply by Feb. 11 at 11:59 p.m. and meet the position’s minimum qualifications found on the job description.

Employees inspect, service, maintain and repair steam heating, air conditioning and ventilating systems. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator) and State of Oklahoma Class II Boiler Operator License to qualify.

Employees travel to construction sites and inspect electric wiring construction, installation, repairs, and alterations. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator), a State of Oklahoma Electrical Journeyman License, a State of Oklahoma Electrical Inspector License, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician, Electrical Contractor or Electrical Inspector to qualify.  Experience must have been in a municipality of 20,000 or larger population.

Employees conduct inspections to ensure elevators, escalators, people lifts and freight elevators are installed properly and safely. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator), State of Oklahoma Elevator Inspector License and a State of Oklahoma Qualified Elevator Inspector Certification to qualify. Candidates should have the minimum requirements to take the NAESA Qualified Elevator examination within 12 months of hire.

Employees inspect, test, install or replace electrical wiring and clean, repair and replace dirty or worn parts. They also maintain and repair heating systems and air conditioner systems. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator) and Oklahoma State Unlimited Mechanical Journeyman in air conditioning, process piping, refrigeration, heating, gas fitting, and sheet metal to qualify.

Employees review irrigation designs, install and test equipment, diagnose problems and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, perform turf maintenance, coordinate field staff activity, operate equipment and hand tools, maintain automated systems and complete activity reports and inspection forms. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator) to qualify.  

Employees inspect, test, install or replace electrical wiring and clean, repair or replace dirty or worn parts. They also diagnose and repair electrical systems and malfunctions. Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator) and Oklahoma State and Oklahoma City Journeyman Wireman’s license to qualify.  

Employees monitor equipment and chemical feed rates, compile reports, train and supervise operations personnel, and ensure lab tests are accurately recorded and in compliance with regulatory and department requirements. Must be age 18+ and have a Class “B” Oklahoma State Water or Wastewater Operator license for water or wastewater processes (depending upon assignment) and a Class “B” Oklahoma State Water Laboratory Operator license for drinking water or Oklahoma State Wastewater Laboratory Operator license for wastewater (depending upon assignment).
