Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill to host its 18th Annual Fiestas de Las Américas Parade & Street Festival

OKLAHOMA CITY — Our friends in Calle Dos Cinco sent this information about the upcoming Fiestas de Las Américas Parade & Street Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30:

“Calle Dos Cinco in Historic Capitol Hill is proud to host its 18th annual Fiestas de Las Américas Parade & Street Festival, presented by Fowler Automotive, Bank of Oklahoma, and Cruz Family Funeral Home. The event will take place Saturday September 30th, 11am – 9pm. Fiestas de Las Américas attracts thousands of visitors to the Historic Capitol Hill District and showcases the beauty, flavors, and talent of the Américas every year during Hispanic Heritage Month.

This exciting day kicks off with the vibrant & colorful Parade of the Américas presented by Bank of Oklahoma at 11am from Lower Scissortail Park. The parade will move south on Robinson into the Historic Capitol Hill business corridor. Close to 100 participants have signed up for this year’s parade including schools, cultural and non-profit organizations, and businesses from across the OKC Metro. The district is thrilled to announce the Langston University Marching Pride Band will be making its grand debut at this year’s parade. Serving as Grand Marshal of this year’s parade is Jessica Martinez-Brooks, Senior Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement at Metro Technology Centers, who has consistently poured her time, talent and treasure into the community and the Calle Dos Cinco district.

The day-long festivities will continue after the parade with live music on the main stage, a cultural dance stage, a kids fiesta zone, mercado – artisan pop-up shops, art exhibit at

the OCCC Capitol Hill Center, artist alley in partnership with Oklahoma Contemporary, and a fiestas food court with food from all over Latin America.

This year the Live Entertainment will be headlined by Grammy-nominated Latin artist Fulanito, as well as the best local talent, and the popular taco eating contest.

Attendees will be able to Travel the Americas through cultural presentations at the Cultural Stage. Over 13 Latin American countries will be represented.

In partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools, the Kids Fiesta Zone will provide all-day kids activities, the Reading Bus, special reading guests and much more.

One of the most popular attractions of this event is the one-of-a-kind shopping experience it offers its festival goers. El Mercado at Fiestas de las Américas will consist of over 40 Artisan Pop-Up Shops this year, each with unique fashion from different parts of Mexico, Guatemala and other parts of Latin America.

It’s not a true Fiesta without delicious food. Fiestas de las Américas offers a great selection of Latin American favorites. Festival attendees will be able to enjoy tacos, arepas, tamales, empanadas and more from over 12 food trucks.
