Bricktown bar fight leaves two in critical condition, six others injured

OKLAHOMA CITY (Bricktown) — Two people are in the hospital in critical condition from stab wounds after a fight in the Pink Parrot bar in Bricktown around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. UPDATE, Sunday: Police had one suspect, but after investigating further, he was released late in the evening.

What we know so far

Both Capt. Michelle Henderson and MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department have kept Free Press informed about initial information and further developments:

  • UPDATE, Sunday — Derick Walker is NO LONGER A SUSPECT according to MSgt Knight on Sunday morning. He was never booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. After his arrest, detectives spent the evening investigating alibis and getting more surveillance video. Late in the night, they released Walker.
  • OKCPD officers were present outside the bar at closing and saw part of the fight in the doorway.
  • The officers saw people running out bloodied in the melee.
  • The two critically injured were given immediate attention by the officers at the scene to reduce bleeding from stab wounds until emergency crews arrived.
  • Six others were also taken to emergency rooms either by EMSA or by private vehicles. It is not clear what types of injuries they sustained.
  • Names of the victims are not yet known.

Background

  • Concentrations of people in the entertainment district have also drawn crime to the area.
  • Police beef up their presence in Bricktown on the weekends with foot patrols paid for by an overtime program and grants.
  • Some of the violent incidents in Bricktown have involved minors.
  • The City Council is expected to consider lowering the minor curfew age in Bricktown to 9:30 p.m. seven days per week.
  • A public hearing on the possible change will be in the City Council meeting on Feb. 28.
