BETHANY, Okla — On Tuesday, the Bethany City Council took action to start advertising bids for infrastructure projects in the GO Bond Bethany voters approved in 2022.

The Council also made room on the agenda for City Manager Elizabeth Gray’s service award from the International City Manager’s Association.

City manager Elizabeth Grey honored for her service

On Monday, Bethany’s City Manager Elizabeth Grey was given a 30-year service award by the International City Manager’s Association.

The 30-year service award recognizes her 30 years of service to citizens across Oklahoma.

“Elizabeth has the attribute of experience,” said Slezickey. “She started at the entry-level in this profession and rose to executive leadership.”

Before Elizabeth Grey was hired by the City of Bethany, she built an extensive city government resume across several municipalities.

She started out with the City of Shawnee as a utility billing clerk, then became their director of operations and eventually the assistant city manager.

She spent some time in Altus and was the second female City manager in Sand Springs before she had an office in Bethany City Hall.

She’s an active member of the City Management Association of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Municipal Management Services, Oklahoma Municipal League, and contributed to the Women in Government movement.

“She’s on mine, and many other professionals’ speed dials for a quick call to find out what to do,” Dave Slezickey said.

City approves GO bond items for bid

Monday’s meeting approved a number of the 2022 GO Bond items for bid advertisement.

The City’s hired engineering firm,TEIM Design, will carry out the competitive bidding process to find the lowest responsible quote for each project.

Here’s a list of the projects heading to bid soon;

  • ARPA Well and Wellfield Improvement Project
  • Bethany Animal Welfare Sanitary Sewer Relocation
  • Pavement Improvement projects (NW 30th from Rockwell to Penie, Mueller from NW 44th to NW 50th, Divis from NW 36th to NW 39th)
  • N.W. 23rd and N. Rockwell Avenue traffic signalization and pedestrian improvement project
  • N.W. 36th and N. Rockwell Avenue traffic signalization and pedestrian improvement project

The Council also approved a bid for the Fire Station addition project included in the 2022 GO Bond. Bids were higher than expected, and so the city will be working with the construction manager to reduce costs.

City Manager Elizabeth Gray said that the City may use savings or some of next year’s budget to complete some phases of the renovation, depending on how the other projects in the GO bond turn out.

Bethany City Staff have called for a special meeting on Wednesday, November 1 at 11:45 A.M. for the ribbon cutting marking the completion of the CDGG Waterline Replacement Project.

The Ribbon Cutting will be on the corner of Halloway Ave and NW 36th Street.

Bethany’s next regularly scheduled City council meeting will be on Tuesday, November 7 at 6:30 P.M.
