PRESS RELEASE: Brian Young sworn in as Oklahoma City Municipal Court judge

Former Oklahoma County Public Defender Brian Young was sworn in as Oklahoma City’s newest municipal judge last week by Presiding Judge Donald O. Kiffin. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the beginning of the April 21 City Council Meeting.

Young will serve alongside Presiding Judge Donald O. Kiffin and Judge Edward D. Hasbrook. Young replaces Judge Kay Floyd.

“Municipal judges play a vital role in upholding public trust and confidence in our city’s justice system,” Ward 8 Councilman Mark Stonecipher said. ”Brian Young was selected for his temperament and respectful demeanor. These qualities will leave a lasting impression on everyone who comes before Oklahoma City’s Municipal Court.”

Municipal judges oversee cases involving alleged violations of municipal code, including traffic tickets, residential code enforcement, criminal offenses and more. Learn more about OKC Municipal Court at okc.gov/court.

About Brian Young

Young spent the first part of his career in environmental litigation and insurance defense. However, he found his calling in criminal law with the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office, where he worked with the county’s Drug Court, DUI Court and Mental Health Court programs. Most recently, Young worked in private practice at the office of Fabian and Young.

After graduating from Del City High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a law degree from Georgetown University.
