First Americans Museum (FAM) sends this information as posted below:

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 12, 2025) – First Americans Museum (FAM) invites the community to its annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Dec. 20–21 from 3 to 6 p.m. The free, family-friendly event marks the shortest day and longest night of the year and honors the solstice’s cultural significance across many Native nations. This year’s event specifically highlights cultural knowledge from the Miami Nation.

Each year in December, people around the world observe the winter solstice as a time of reflection, renewal and connection with the natural world. At FAM, guests can explore an immersive tunnel light show, warm up with hot chocolate, join guided tours of the FAM Mound and enjoy the museum’s many offerings. At approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 20 and 21, visitors may gather to watch the sun set through the Mound tunnel, followed by a walk-through light and sound experience.

“Our Winter Solstice Celebration is a time where we can pause, reflect and connect,” said Marci Hensley (Comanche Nation/Kiowa/Otoe-Missouria/Winnebago), FAM public programs manager. “This year, our event runs for two days and we are excited to welcome cultural knowledge keepers from the Miami Nation, who will be sharing traditional winter games and activities with our community. We look forward to welcoming people for a unique experience many in our community look forward to every year.”

Admission to the solstice event is free; no tickets are required, but parking is limited. To visit the galleries or the new FAMily Discovery Center, guests may purchase admission online or at the FAM Info Desk. Guests should check FAMok.org for operating hours, which may differ from the solstice event schedule. Drones are not allowed, but photography is encouraged. Guests are also encouraged to dress for the weather.

FAM will also host its first-ever Solstice Supper at 39 Restaurant on Dec. 20. Dinner service is from 6 to 10 p.m., with live music by AJ Harvey (Ponca Tribe/Pawnee/Hidatsa) until 8 p.m.

“Our Solstice Supper celebrates the flavors, stories and spirit of winter,” said Chef Ben Hutton. “Every plate is crafted with intention, drawing from Indigenous traditions and the beauty of the season.”

The $125 prix fixe menu features seasonal ingredients and elevated culinary techniques, allowing guests to enjoy a unique dining experience on the longest night of the year. Reservations are required and can be made here.
