PRESS RELEASE: OKCPS accepting applications for district’s Bond Citizens Oversight Committee

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) sends this information as posted below:

(Oklahoma City, OK) – The Oklahoma City Public School (OKCPS) Board of Education voted to update Policy D-15, Bond Citizens Oversight Committee, reaffirming the district’s commitment to transparency and community involvement in the implementation of its historic 2022 bond package.

Approved by 63.9% of Oklahoma City voters, the $955 million bond is the largest in district history. The package is designed to modernize school facilities, provide updated equipment, and improve learning environments for students and staff across OKCPS. Projects include construction of new schools, such as Capitol Hill and Belle Isle Enterprise High Schools, as well as significant renovations throughout the district.

To ensure that bond funds are used responsibly and projects stay on track, a Bond Citizens Oversight Committee will be reestablished to provide guidance, oversight, and regular updates to the Board of Education and the community. The Board of Education is now seeking community members to serve on the Bond Citizens Oversight Committee. This volunteer committee plays a vital role in monitoring progress, offering recommendations, and strengthening public trust as OKCPS moves forward with bond-related projects.

Eligible applicants must live or work within OKCPS boundaries. Individuals currently employed by OKCPS, members of the Board of Education, elected officials, or employees of OKCPS vendors or contractors with active business relationships with the district are not eligible to serve.

The window for applicants to apply to serve on the committee is open now through Aug. 15.
