PRESS RELEASE: OKC Councilperson James Cooper to host Ward 2 meet-up Nov. 5

The City of OKC sends this information as posted below:

Councilperson James Cooper invites the community to learn about important city initiatives during a Ward 2 Meet-Up at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the Great Hall, located in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center on the Oklahoma City University campus.

Cooper will emcee the event, which will feature presentations on initiatives affecting Oklahoma City residents including affordable housing, One Transit, transit-oriented development and the Classen transit-oriented development plan and survey results.

“The meet-up is an opportunity for residents to learn important information about city initiatives and engage one-on-one with City staff in meaningful ways,” Cooper said. “Since I took office in April 2019, we’ve completed MAPS 3, we’re implementing 2017’s Better Streets projects, launched MAPS 4’s $1.1 billion investments in OKC’s people, parks and places, and created 2025’s historic $2.7 billion infrastructure bond—including affordable housing. I’ve witnessed what happens when we invest in ourselves. Ahead of us, we have more work.”

Following the presentations, attendees can speak one-on-one with City staff from Parks, Public Works, EMBARK, Planning, Key to Home Partnership and MAPS 4.

Ward 2 is located in north Oklahoma City. Its boundaries generally run from NW 23rd St. to Britton Rd and McArthur Blvd. to I-235.

Councilman Cooper was elected to represent Ward 2 on the OKC City Council in April 2019. He served formerly in Oklahoma City Public Schools, specifically as an AVID middle school college preparation teacher and, after taking office, taught as an adjunct English professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. Currently, Cooper teaches English and Film Studies as an assistant professor at Oklahoma City University, where he serves on OCU’s Arts and Sciences Advisory Board.
