Woman dies from gunshot wounds, another wounded but survives

OKLAHOMA CITY — Thursday, October 26, two women were shot during a fight at a north OKC apartment complex where one died from her wounds. The other was treated and released from the hospital.

The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of NW 88th St. near the intersection of N. Western Avenue and N.W. 88th Street.

The death is homicide #63 for Oklahoma City in 2023.

When officers arrived at an apartment complex on a shooting call they found the two women who had gunshot wounds, according to Oklahoma City Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

Thelma Johnson, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman wounded was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.

At the time, police took several others into custody to interview them about the incident but eventually released them without making any arrests.

Now, detectives are developing their report on the incident. Quirk said it will be up to the DA’s office to determine if anyone is charged with a crime.
