NORMAN | May 2025 — Soonercon, Oklahoma’s longest-running pop culture convention, returns for its 33rd convention on June 20–22, at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Norman.
Hosted by the Future Society of Oklahoma, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Soonercon brings together fans of science fiction, fantasy, anime, comics, literature, gaming and art for a weekend of inclusive community celebration and creativity.
This year’s theme, Gateway to the Galaxy, invites attendees to explore the imaginative realms of space exploration in speculative fiction with three full days of programming. Highlights include fan-led panels, cosplay contests, tabletop and video gaming, a juried art show, hands-on workshops, celebrity Q&A sessions and a vibrant exhibitor marketplace.
“Soonercon is all about storytelling across fandoms, and we’re excited to welcome Garrett Wang and Ethan Phillips from ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ to help us celebrate that tradition,” said Matt Cavanaugh, Soonercon convention chair. “Their legacy in science fiction television fits perfectly with this year’s Gateway to the Galaxy theme, and we can’t wait for fans to meet them.”
Other celebrity guests include voice actors Emi Lo and Allegra Clark, cosplay guest Jaremi Carey and bestselling “Star Wars” author Michael A. Stackpole, among many others.
Soonercon also features a dedicated children’s program, with crafts, games, and activities designed for younger attendees and families. Kids 12 and under are free with an adult pass.
For adults, the convention offers a variety of 18+ after-hours entertainment, including themed performances and panels geared toward mature audiences.
With a strong focus on accessibility, education, and creative engagement, Soonercon continues to grow as a welcoming hub for both local and regional fandoms.
