PRESS RELEASE: Order discounted rain barrels by May 7 to conserve water, help your garden

The City of Oklahoma City sends this information as posted below:

The City of Oklahoma City and the Central Oklahoma Storm Water Alliance are offering discounted rain barrels to encourage residents to conserve water.

People can buy the upcycled 55-gallon rain barrels, starting at $69.50 each, online at okc.gov/RainBarrel. Program participants should specify Oklahoma City as the “Rainbarrel Program City” during online checkout to correctly associate the order with Oklahoma City’s program.

The rain barrels are available in multiple colors. Composters and accessories are also available. The deadline to order online is May 7.

“This is one of our most popular storm water best practices that can be implemented on a residential scale,” Environmental Protection Superintendent Derek Johnson said. “Every gallon of captured rainwater helps reduce the impacts of urban runoff to our local waterways.”

Using rain barrels to collect rainfall limits the amount of drinking water used on lawns and gardens. The upcycled barrels come with new fixtures and screens to keep critters and mosquitoes out.

Rain barrels ordered online or by mail may be picked up on May 11 or May 18 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, 1621 S Portland Ave.
