Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) sends this information as posted below:
At last night’s OKCPS Board of Education meeting, a formal recommendation was made to name the new district stadium McLaughlin Family Stadium in honor of the McLaughlin family’s significant contributions and dedication to help provide OKCPS students, coaches and families quality athletic facilities and program support across the OKCPS district. Their investment in OKCPS school communities has not only provided state-of-the-art resources for our students but has also fostered a sense of pride, community, and opportunity within our schools, resulting in improved physical health, academic performance, and overall well-being of OKCPS students.
The new stadium, to be built on the campus of John Marshall Enterprise High School, will be the home of the John Marshall Enterprise High School Bears and the Belle Isle Enterprise High School Bulls and is part of the bond package approved by OKC voters in November 2022.
Liz and Tim McLaughlin founded Fields & Futures, a local charitable organization, in 2012 for the purpose of helping OKCPS grow student participation in sports, believing there is a direct link between athletics and the academic mission, and that every child should have the opportunity to play a sport they love on quality maintained fields with resources and support to enhance their experience.
Since its creation in 2012, Fields & Futures, in partnership with OKCPS and a committed group of program and resource partners, has completed 70 construction projects at 17 middle and high school campuses across the OKCPS district, and has established a perpetual field maintenance fund to help ensure fields are cared for long into the future.
OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Jamie C. Polk expressed her gratitude, stating, “The McLaughlin family’s unwavering support and dedication through Fields & Futures has been transformative for our district. Naming the North Regional Stadium after them is a testament to their enduring impact on our students and community. This new facility will stand as a beacon of their legacy and commitment to education and athletics.”
The new stadium will serve as a central hub for athletic events, fostering community engagement and school spirit. This facility is set to inspire future generations of students, providing them with the resources they need to excel both on and off the field. Construction on the new field is slated to begin this fall with completion anticipated in time for the 2026-27 school year. The OKCPS Board of Education is expected to take action on the proposed name at their next scheduled meeting on August 19.
