OKCPS high school juniors and seniors looking for full- and part-time employment with the City of Oklahoma City are invited to a hiring event on March 28 at Douglass High School, 900 N Martin Luther King Ave.
Students can visit okc.gov/HighSchoolHiringEvent for event details and to apply for positions. All applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 22. Application tips can be found on the webpage. Students should answer job questions carefully and fill out the work history section with specific job responsibilities that relate to the position they are applying for. Students should think of skills they have gained from extracurriculars, volunteering, etc., if they don’t have any work experience.
To interview, applicants must bring a photo ID that shows their birthday. Parent/guardian consent is required for students under the age of 18 to accept conditional job offers.
OKCPS is coordinating transportation to Douglass High School for students who apply ahead of time.
“This is a great opportunity for high school seniors to start their career with the City after they graduate,” Chief Human Resources Officer Aimee Maddera said. “Juniors and seniors looking for part-time summer work also have a lot of great options to earn money once employed with the City.”
The City of Oklahoma City is partnering with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 2406, (AFSCME) and Douglass High School to host the hiring event.
Full-time jobs
- Animal Welfare Officer I ($18.98 an hour)Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator). This position requires an online test when you apply and a background check, physical exam & drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.
- Collection and Distribution Trainee ($20.70 an hour)Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator). This position requires an interview and a background check, physical exam & drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.
- Crew Worker I ($15.91 an hour)Must be age 18+. This position requires an online test when you apply and a background check, physical exam & drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.
- Police Report Clerk ($17.38 an hour)Must be age 18+. This position requires an online test when you apply and a background check upon receiving a conditional job offer.
- Refuse Collector Trainee ($17.38 an hour)Must be age 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator). This position requires an interview and a background check, physical exam & drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.
- Senior Customer Service Representative ($18.11 an hour)Must be age 18+. This position requires an online test when you apply and a background check upon receiving a conditional job offer.
Benefits
Benefits for full-time employees include 96 hours of vacation leave and 130 hours of sick leave per year, 11 regular holidays per year, employer-paid parking/EMBARK bus pass for eligible employees working at the downtown campus, a retirement plan, medical center for employees and covered dependents, tuition reimbursement and life, health, dental and vision insurance options.

- Recreation Leader I ($12.50 an hour)Must be age 16+. This position requires an interview and a background check and drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.
