PRESS RELEASE: OKCPS Foundation launches T-Up for OKCPS 2024

The Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Foundation sends this information as posted below:

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 1, 2024) – Today, the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation launched its 2024 T-Up for OKCPS advocacy campaign and fundraising event. This annual campaign raises funds and awareness for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) by selling limited-edition “OKCPS Champion” T-shirts to supporters. On Thursday, May 9, thousands of public education advocates from across Oklahoma City and beyond will wear their 2024 T-Up for OKCPS shirt in a show of support and solidarity for our city’s schools.

“The funds raised through this campaign are so valuable to our work, allowing us to make a tangible impact on local education,” said Mary Mélon-Tully, president and CEO of the OKCPS Foundation.  “Our schools can’t do it alone, and we hope everyone in the community will join us in supporting our city’s students and teachers by purchasing and wearing this one -of -a -kind 2024 T-Up for OKCPS Champion tee.”

Supporters near and far can purchase the 2024 commemorative T-Up for OKCPS shirts online for just $25 at www.okckids.com/t-up. Available in English or Spanish, shirts can be purchased now through April 10th and will arrive in mailboxes in time for the May 9 Stars of Education event.

Oklahoma City Public Schools is a large urban school district, serving more than 33,000 students, with 92% of these students living at or below the poverty line. The OKCPS Foundation works closely with the district to design and implement strategic and diverse programming aimed at addressing the greatest needs that local students, teachers and schools are facing.

“From advancing diversity to improving student literacy rates and providing teachers with classroom supplies, the work our Foundation does is not just important – it is critical,” said Dr. Sean McDaniel, superintendent of OKCPS. “We’re asking OKCPS families, staff and community members to join us once again so we can ensure the Foundation can continue to offer the support our district needs. It takes all of us coming together to give our city’s children the world-class education they deserve and this is a fun way for our community to be involved.”

The Thursday, May 9 T-Up for OKCPS date intentionally coincides with the Foundation’s Stars of Education celebration, an annual event that announces the OKCPS District Teacher of the Year, celebrates the Sam and Charolet Shirley Outstanding Principal Award winners and honors other educators and supporters who make a real difference in the lives of our city’s students.

Throughout 2024, the Foundation is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Last year’s T-Up for OKCPS campaign raised nearly $100,000, and the Foundation hopes to make this T-Up campaign even more successful in recognition of this remarkable milestone.
