Oklahoma City, OK, October 9, 2024: Oklahoma City Ballet will present Jorden Morris’ Peter Pan October 18-20 at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. This family-friendly classic will be presented four times over the weekend, including a sensory-friendly performance on October 19 at 2:00 p.m.
“We look forward to kicking off our 53rd Season with Peter Pan, which is fun for the whole family,” said Artistic Director Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye. “There will be high-flying adventures, dynamic sword fights, pestering pirates, and all of the fantastical characters from the classic. You will surely leave with happy thoughts.”
An adaptation of the famed J.M. Barrie novel, Jorden Morris created this two-act ballet for Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 2006. The ballet follows the timeless tale closely, which includes all of the lovable and famed characters like Tinker Bell, Wendy, the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, Tiger Lily, and even the crocodile.
Dancers will fly across the Civic Center stage with help from the amazing team at Las Vegas based Flying by Foy, who worked with Morris to choreograph flying sequences. Peter Pan will also include live music by OKCPHIL.
On Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. Oklahoma City Ballet will present a sensory-friendly performance of Peter Pan with support from AutismOklahoma. Sensory-friendly performances are for children and adults with sensory sensitivities or for anyone who may benefit from being in a more relaxed environment. Changes to this performance will include lower music volume, adjusted house lighting, no pyrotechnics or strobe lights, and very relaxed theater rules, allowing guests to use electronic devices, talk, and leave their seats as needed. Tickets to this performance are deeply discounted and will also include a brief dancer meet and greet immediately following the performance.
“This production will have something for everyone, and for all ages. There will be hilarious laughter, very challenging choreography, flying scenes, and beautiful music,” said Jo Lynne Jones, Oklahoma City Ballet’s John Kirkpatrick Executive Director. “The sensory-friendly performance is also a great opportunity not only for people with sensory issues, but also for young children who might have their first theater experience.”
Single tickets to Peter Pan start at $20 and are available now through Oklahoma City Ballet and Civic Center Box offices. They are also available online at www.okcballet.org.
One hour prior to each performance, the lobby will open for guests to shop at The Ballet Boutique, featuring one-of-a-kind Oklahoma City Ballet merchandise. The lobby will also include an interactive photo booth.
Performances of Peter Pan will take place on Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. with the sensory-friendly version on Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m.
