PRESS RELEASE: Martinez sworn in for OKCPS board; Dismuke to be honored April 20th

(Oklahoma City, OK) Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) welcomed Galilea Martinez as the newly elected District 7 representative on the OKCPS Board of Education, following the results of the recent election.

The results were certified by the Oklahoma County Election Board at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 10. Following certification, Ms. Martinez was officially sworn in during the Board of Education (BOE) meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. She was welcomed at a reception in her honor prior to the meeting.

Vernona Dismuke will be sworn in as the District 5 board member for OKCPS before the April 20th session.

The Board also welcomes Vernona Dismuke as the new District 5 Board of Education member. Ms. Dismuke will be in attendance at the Board’s April 20 Work Session at 5:30 p.m. A reception in her honor will also be held at 5 p.m. prior to that meeting.

As they step into their new roles, OKCPS looks forward to partnering with Ms. Martinez and Ms. Dismuke to serve our students, families, and community. Their leadership comes at an important time as the Board continues its focus on student outcomes, including improving academic achievement, ensuring equitable access to high-quality instruction, and strengthening accountability to the community. Together, the Board of Education remains committed to setting a clear vision, monitoring progress toward goals, and aligning resources to ensure every OKCPS student graduates ready to fulfill their unique purpose.
