PRESS RELEASE: High school, career tech students invited to hiring event for City of OKC positions

High school and career technology juniors and seniors from across the metro area are invited to a hiring event for full- and part-time positions with the City of Oklahoma City. Sophomores interested in learning more about the Oklahoma City Police Cadet program may also attend.

The hiring event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at the Oklahoma City Convention Center, 100 Mick Cornett Dr. Successful applicants will be placed on hiring lists to fill future vacancies or given conditional offers.

The event will connect students with fun part-time summer jobs and introduce them to potential full-time career paths with the City of OKC. Attendees can meet with City staff, explore career options and interview or test for lifeguard, call center and waterline maintenance positions on-site.

Apply now through March 7

Students hoping to get a job offer on March 12 should apply by March 7. To apply, search “March 12 Hiring Event” on okc.gov/careers, choose the position of interest and complete the application.

Applicants must bring a photo ID showing their birthday to interview. Parent or guardian consent is required for students under 18 to accept conditional job offers.

Students should answer job questions carefully and fill out the experience section with job responsibilities that relate to the position for which they are applying. Students without work experience should think of skills they have gained from extracurriculars, volunteering, etc. Tips can be found in the applicant information section at okc.gov/careers.

Part-time jobs available

  • Lifeguard I ($13 an hour)

Must be 16+. This position requires an interview, a background check and a drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer. Selected applicants will also be required to pass a swim test. 

  • Lifeguard II ($15 an hour)

Must be 16+. This position requires an interview, a background check and a drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer. Selected applicants will also be required to pass a swim test. 

Full-time jobs available

  • Collection and Distribution Trainee ($21.45 an hour)

Must be 18+ and have a valid driver’s license (Operator). This position requires an interview, a background check, a physical exam and a drug test upon receiving a conditional job offer.

  • Utilities Customer Service Representative ($19.67 an hour)

Must be 18+. Upon receiving a conditional job offer, this position requires an in-person test on-site and a background check.

Benefits

Benefits for full-time employees include 96 hours of vacation leave and 130 hours of sick leave per year, 11 regular holidays per year, employer-paid parking/EMBARK bus pass for eligible employees working at the downtown campus, a retirement plan, a medical center for employees and covered dependents, tuition reimbursement and life, health, dental and vision insurance options. Although part-time employees do not receive benefits, except for the Employee Assistance Program, they do receive preference in hiring processes for general represented full-time positions.
