OKLAHOMA CITY – (May 8, 2025) — The Calderón Dance Festival will return to downtown Oklahoma City on May 18, transforming the Myriad Botanical Gardens into a celebration of movement, music and community.
The free, all-day event honors the legacy of the late Shannon Calderón, a beloved dance educator and advocate for inclusivity in the arts.
From noon to 8 p.m., attendees of all ages and abilities can participate in dance classes, enjoy live performances and explore local art vendors. The festival brings together people from across Oklahoma to experience the diversity and beauty of dance.
“The Calderón Dance Festival is more than an event; it’s a reflection of Shannon’s vision to create an accessible and inclusive space for anyone to experience the joy of dance,” said festival co-founder Erika Vasquez. “Each year, we see her dream come to life as people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate movement and community.”
This year’s lineup features Grammy Award-winning choreographer Anthony Thomas, renowned for his work on Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation,” as well as performances by ReVoZo, Edgar Cruz and The Brave Amigos. A highlight of the day will be the Hip Hop Battle, led by the Groovemeant Community, offering cash prizes to standout performers.
“Our mission is to increase the quality, accessibility and appreciation of dance in central Oklahoma,” said Andrea Lodico, co-founder of OK Let’s Dance. “Partnering with the Calderón Dance Festival allows us to honor Shannon’s legacy and inspire a love for dance for all people.”
