OKLAHOMA CITY — More than 30,000 people will fill the Plaza District for the 25th annual Plaza Festival, where they can watch a world-renowned band, buy a handmade craft item from the artist and see a new mural be painted. Plaza Festival is on Saturday, September 28th, from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m., in The Plaza District, 1745 NW 16th St. The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
Marcus “Quese IMC“ Frejo, an Indegenous artist, who has performed at festivals around the world, says it’s special to return to his hometown to and participate in two different parts of the festival.
“My show is really high energy – a lot of interactive culture segues from Native American influence to my Mexican heritage – it’s good medicine. My performance is definitely rooted in Indigenous culture aligned with modern day hip hop culture which is a great combination and vibe,” said Frejo. “I am also excited to showcase Indigenous art and clothing and show that there are contemporary modern Indigenous artists here in Oklahoma City.”
While the main stage will be packed with performers throughout the day, closing with Oklahoma’s own Skating Polly. There will be much more for people to see and do, including:
● The ACM@UCO Stage- This stage is fully produced by current students who get real-life experience in performing and producing a festival stage
● The Groovemeant Dance Stage- Dance performances and three dance battles will culminate with a $500 cash prize. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s O’City Crew and
Thunder drummers will make an appearance. The dance stage is presented by the Groovemeant Community and Arts Council Oklahoma City’s Art Moves.
● Watch artist from across the country paint new murals in the Plaza Walls Mural Expo ● Let’s Fix This hosts a civic engagement panel featuring voters of diverse background discussing why voting is important to them. The panel will take place at OKC Improv from 4-6 PM.
● More than 35 artist from Oklahoma selling handmade goods including leather work, ceramics. paintings, jewelry. Festival goers can pick up something for as little as $5. ● Kid’s area- Kids can participate in interactive art activities like bracelet making, face
painting, and coloring, jump in the bounce house, meet OKC’s Ghostbusters, and so much more.
● Catch a Broadway-caliber show at Lyric Theatre as they perform the Tony-award winner “Once on this Island” 2PM and 8PM
● Plaza District businesses including Grand Royale & RadBar will have special concerts and entertainment
● Festival goers can enjoy their day on 10 patios spread throughout the Plaza District
The 25th Annual Plaza District Festival is The Plaza District’s largest annual event drawing over 30,000 attendees. All proceeds from the annual festival go to support The Plaza District Association, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting the district and Oklahoma City community through free, monthly arts and culture programming, including Live!
