Finalists announced for annual OKCPS Teacher of the Year Award

(Oklahoma City, OK) – Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is excited to announce the nine finalists for the district’s teachers of the year award. The following nine finalists for the award, the winner of which will be announced this May, were selected from the district’s teachers of the year from each school site.

2024 OKCPS Teacher of the Year Finalists:

  • Julianne Anthony, Wheeler Middle School
  • Sally Berry, Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School
  • Jacqualine Bufford, Northwest Classen High School
  • Lindsey Clinton, Adelaide Lee Elementary School
  • Brandi Kelley, Classen School of Advanced Studies Middle School
  • Eric Parker, Taft Middle School
  • Dominique Poncelet, Southeast Middle School
  • Jennifer Reyes-Garcia, Mark Twain Elementary School
  • Drew Rhodes, Emerson South Mid-High School

“Each year, I am more and more amazed by the things I learn about the outstanding teachers we have here in OKCPS,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel. “Congratulations to these nine finalists. Your unwavering commitment to education combined with your innovative teaching methods and heart for your students have set you apart. This well-deserved recognition is a testament to your dedication and the positive influence you’ve had on countless lives. Thank you.”

The finalists will be recognized at the annual Stars of Education celebration, where the 2024 OKCPS Teacher of the year will be announced. The event will be held in-person on May 9, 2024 at the Yale Theater in Oklahoma City. Finalists will receive cash awards, plus a number of valuable prizes donated by community partners. The winner of this contest will then serve as the district’s candidate for Oklahoma’s State Teacher of the Year.

The Stars of Education event is held each spring to celebrate teachers and outstanding achievement throughout the district. In addition to the announcement of OKCPS Teacher of the Year, awards will also be presented to honorees for exceptional support staff, volunteers and Community Partners of the Year. Additionally, two outstanding OKCPS principals, one from an elementary school and one from a secondary school, will receive The Sam and Charolet Shirley Outstanding Principal Awards as well as cash awards.
