The Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum sends this information as posted below:
The Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum will temporarily close October 19–25 as construction continues on Foreword, the landmark addition to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. The Museum will reopen Monday, October 26, at 9 a.m.
During the temporary closure, the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial grounds will remain open and accessible to visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Memorial Store will also remain open.
As soon as the Memorial Museum closed to guests Sunday the 19th evening, crews moved into action and began work on a wide range of construction and preservation projects tied to Foreword. Teams immediately started preparing gallery spaces, relocating artifacts, and coordinating major construction activities throughout the Museum. Among the first tasks completed was the careful relocation of the historic Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building seal to a secure location, where it will remain protected as work continues in several areas of the Museum. The intensive week of work is designed to capitalize on the temporary closure and accelerate progress on the landmark expansion.
The closure will allow hundreds of team members from construction, architecture, audiovisual, exhibit design and other project teams to work together on a major push to advance Foreword. A key goal for the week is to create an opening connecting the new addition to the existing Museum building.
“The progress happening this week is only possible because so many people are coming together with a shared commitment to preserving this story and preparing for its future,” said Kari Watkins, President & CEO. “There is tremendous collaboration taking place behind the scenes, allowing us to make meaningful strides on Foreword while ensuring the care and respect the Memorial Museum deserves.”
Foreword is a transformative expansion of the Memorial & Museum that will broaden the story of April 19, 1995, through new programming and gathering spaces, increased accessibility, and the display of significant artifacts that deepen understanding of the bombing’s impact and legacy.
Visitors can still experience the Memorial during the Museum closure. Partner National Park Service rangers will offer ranger talks daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. throughout the closure, and the Outdoor Symbolic Memorial will remain open 24/7.
