OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Police Department has released new charges from their investigation following the discovery of a dead body in a trailer home after a police shooting incident on February 16th.
That evening, police responded to reports of a man firing a pistol outside of his trailer home in southeast OKC. When officers arrived, they say that 50-year-old Steven Saathoff began firing at them, prompting MSgt. Mathew Nelson to return fire, injuring Saathoff and taking him into custody.
Following the shooting, investigators discovered the body of Saathoff’s 23-year-old son, Colten, shot to death inside the home, as Free Press reported at the time:

Tuesday morning, police announced new charges following their investigation into the younger Saathoff’s death.
Steven Saathoff has now been charged with first-degree murder related to his son’s death. That charge will be added to existing charges of shooting with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon.
Colten Saathoff’s death will now be carried as the 20th recorded homicide for OKC in 2026.
Note: Charges, information, or claims made by law enforcement have not yet been tested in court. Under the law, all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty before a jury of their peers or a plea of guilt.
