Man shot, killed in NW Oklahoma City apartment breezeway

— Homicide No. 72 for the City of OKC in 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY — A 32‑year‑old man was shot and killed late Tuesday night in the breezeway of an apartment complex, marking the 72nd homicide in Oklahoma City this year according to police.

Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded about 10:17 p.m. Tuesday to a check‑the‑welfare call in the 6700 block of Decon Avenue, near Wilshire Avenue and Lyrewood Lane, according to a department news release from Master Sergeant Gary Knight.

When officers arrived, they found Chad Halvorson, born June 17, 1993, lying in the breezeway with apparent gunshot wounds.

Halvorson was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

It remains unclear what led to the shooting or who was involved.

This homicide comes amid a recent spate of deadly violence in the city:
• In a south Oklahoma City apartment, a man was found dead Dec. 9, in what investigators believe was a homicide and recorded as homicide No. 71 for 2025.
• Also on Dec. 9, police arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman Dec. 5 in southwest Oklahoma City, the city’s 70th homicide.
• Police confirmed that a suspect shot by an Oklahoma City police officer in September later died from his wounds, leading the department to reclassify the case as homicide No. 69 for the year.
• Earlier, on Dec. 2, two teenagers were arrested after a deadly north Oklahoma City shooting that was recorded as homicide No. 68.

Police continue to investigate the latest death as part of the city’s ongoing effort to address violent crime, and ask anyone with information to contact the Homicide Tip‑Line at (405) 297‑1200.
