OKLAHOMA CITY — The 16th detainee death of 2022 occurred in the Oklahoma County Jail late Wednesday around 9:40 p.m.
Few details are known at this time.
Jail staff were sent to the medical floor to check the welfare of 39-year-old Luis Gonzalez. Once they arrived they found that he was “not responsive” according to a short news release.
Detention officers then attempted life-saving measures until Oklahoma City Fire Department firefighters arrived. Firefighters pronounced Gonzalez dead at 9:58 p.m. His family has been notified.
Turn Key Health is the contractor for all medical services in the Oklahoma County Jail and Oklahoma State Representative Jon Echols is the co-founder and president.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been notified.
Gonzalez was born Oct. 22, 1983. He was booked into the Jail December 11.
As with any death in the jail, the State Medical Examiner’s Office will make a final determination as to the cause of death.
