Student’s laser pointer cause of John Marshall HS lockdown

-- Lockdown lifted by end of school day

OKLAHOMA CITY — John Marshall Enterprise High School in OKC was in “secure” status or lockdown Wednesday when reports of a weapon in the school made it to the school resource officer.

But, by the end of the day, officers and administrators determined that a laser pointer in a student’s possession was the cause of alarm. The pointer, also not allowed in OKCPS schools, was taken from the student and the lockdown was lifted.

“The original report included conflicting information which delayed our notification to families,” a statement read from the district once the issue was resolved.

Before we notify families of a possible incident, it’s imperative that we share accurate information to limit and prevent rumors and misinformation being shared.”

The statement concluded by saying, “As always, the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. Members of the community can help by remaining vigilant in their own safety practices and by reporting any suspicious or threatening behavior directly to OKCPS’ 24-hour hotline at (405) 587-SAFE.
