ASEZ WAO Volunteers Plant Trees in Bethany’s Parks
Bethany, Oklahoma — Young adults from ASEZ WAO, which stands for Save the Earth from A to Z We Are One, planted new trees in one of Bethany’s public parks on Sunday, December 7, working to bring comfort, beauty, and care to local residents. The volunteer effort took place at Eldon Lyon Park and focused on supporting the environment and helping the community grow stronger together.
Organizers explained that ASEZ WAO members approached the project with the same values they practice in their ongoing work. ASEZ WAO, a young adult volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God, serves with the belief that “all people are one” and follows the teaching to “love your neighbors as yourself.” Members often describe their approach as serving with the heart of a mother, hoping to ensure that no one feels left alone and that communities can grow with warmth and connection.
Bethany Councilwoman Kathy Larsen visited the volunteers to thank them for their service and encourage their continued involvement in the community. She shared, “I want to say thank you so much to ASEZ WAO for all that you have done for the city of Bethany. On behalf of Bethany—thank you.”
Young adult volunteer Devin Stephens added, “This event has been really inspiring and exciting. It’s great to be part of something positive for the community.”
ASEZ WAO has received past recognitions for its volunteer works, including the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award and Certificates of Appreciation from the Oklahoma City Public Works Department. These acknowledgments reflect years of service and the ongoing efforts of the young adults.
Most recently, ASEZ WAO received a Citation of Recognition from Oklahoma House Representative Tammy West in connection with this tree-planting event and their continued environmental and community service efforts throughout Oklahoma.
The trees used in the project were donated by OKC Beautiful, whose support made the effort possible. Golden Corral on MacArthur provided catering for all volunteers, and Home Depot and Lowe’s also provided support for the event. Volunteers shared that they hoped the young trees would grow into spaces where residents can find comfort, connection, and encouragement. They also expressed that they hoped the trees would serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of loving our neighbors across the global village.
ASEZ STAR Students Taking Action Through Tree Planting in Bethany
Bethany, Oklahoma — The All Abilities Playground didn’t sound like itself on Sunday, December 7. Instead of the familiar hum of weekend play, visitors heard the steady scoop of shovels, soft pats of soil and the focused voices of ASEZ STAR students working together. The middle and high school volunteers filled the park with a quiet, determined energy as they planted new trees for the community.
ASEZ STAR is a student volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God. The name means Students Take Action Right Now, and the students said that this meaning guided why they chose to volunteer, rather than spend their weekend at leisure. They explained that taking action with the heart of a Mother inspires them to give love, help their neighbors and create an environment where everyone feels included and supported. For them, planting trees was a practical way to bring comfort and care to their community.
Student volunteer Cyiah Jackson shared, “I’m really happy I got to help the planet and make our environment look better.”
Bethany Councilwoman Kathy Larsen visited the playground during the work. She thanked the students for choosing to use their free time for the benefit of others and encouraged them to continue being involved in local service efforts. She shared, “It was a wonderful opportunity to work with these volunteers. You guys have a passion for what you’re doing for society. There’s no question about that.”
ASEZ STAR has received past recognitions for its community work, including the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award and Certificates of Appreciation issued by the Oklahoma City Public Works Department. These acknowledgments reflect the students’ ongoing commitment to serving neighbors and contributing to community improvement.
The trees planted on Sunday were provided by OKC Beautiful. Golden Corral on MacArthur provided catering for all volunteers, and Home Depot and Lowe’s also provided support for the event. After placing the final saplings in the soil, the students said they hoped the young trees would offer comfort to families who visit the playground in the coming years. They also shared that they wanted the trees to serve as a reminder of the importance of loving our neighbors throughout the global village.
