DAVIS, OK – The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City broke ground on the YMCA Camp Classen Health Center, a purpose-built facility designed to enhance health-related services offered to campers and staff. The nearly 3,000 square-foot health center is expected to be completed and open before next summer.
Founded in 1941, YMCA Camp Classen is a traditional overnight camp located on 2,200 acres in the Arbuckle Mountains of southern Oklahoma. Located near the camp’s dining hall, the Health Center will allow Camp Classen staff to better serve the increasing mental and physical health needs of campers. This new facility will also provide housing for an additional nurse and feature modern medication storage and medical supply spaces—critical for supporting the thousands of campers who attend each year.
The project is made possible through the generous support of the Chickasaw Nation and YMCA of the USA (YUSA). The expected cost of construction is $680,000.
“A major part of the camp experience is ensuring the health and safety of all campers and staff,” said Jason Brown, executive director of YMCA Camp Classen. “We manage medications for nearly half of our camp population, administering about 250 doses daily. This new health center will help us better serve those needs while also offering adult-friendly accommodations during the non-summer months.”
For more than 135 years, the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City has remained committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves. The YMCA Camp Classen Health Center continues this mission by ensuring a safer, healthier experience for every camper.
