OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 4, 2025) — Western Gateway Elementary School (WGES) has named Tom Deighan its interim superintendent and has promoted Lindsay Floyd to the role of principal ahead of the 2025-26 academic year.

Deighan has more than 30 years of experience in public education, including 13 years as an Oklahoma superintendent, guiding districts through times of strategic growth. Deighan, who recently served as a college professor and the interim chief financial officer for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS), has written several books about education, including Called to Public Schools. His prior experience also includes extensive consulting in federal programs, finance, governance and executive coaching.

“Dr. Deighan’s proven track record of steady, collaborative leadership reflects Western Gateway’s commitment to achievement, excellence and growth,” said Blair Humphreys, chairman of the WGES Board of Directors. “He has been tasked with helping us move forward thoughtfully to strengthen our academic and operational foundations.”

Lindsay Floyd, who joined WGES as director of education in 2024, will step into the role of principal. Floyd is a former assistant principal and elementary educator who has been named among Oklahoma Oil & Natural Gas’ “Top 10 Teachers in Oklahoma.”

Floyd’s professional background includes leading literacy initiatives, developing teacher coaching systems and fostering a strong academic culture in her previous roles at Santa Fe South Schools and OKCPS. She has a master’s in education from Vanderbilt University and dual principal certifications in Oklahoma.

“Ms. Floyd’s commitment to our students and her proven ability to lead make her an ideal choice to serve as principal,” Humphreys said. “Her leadership will bring fresh energy and a strong vision for supporting our staff, students and families, creating an environment where every child can thrive.”

WGES is entering its fifth year and is one of Oklahoma City’s only dual-language schools. For more information, visit westerngateway.school
