PRESS RELEASE: The Friends of the Library host Summer Book Sale August 8-10

The Friends of the Metropolitan Library System sends this information as posted below:

Oklahoma residents look forward to the annual Book Sale at the OKC Fairgrounds every winter, but this year, there’s even more to celebrate with the addition of a special Summer Book Sale August 8–10 at the Hobby, Arts & Crafts Building at the OKC Fairgrounds. Shoppers can expect unbeatable prices with paperbacks for $1, hardcovers for $2, and children’s books at half-price, and all proceeds benefiting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) in Oklahoma County.

DPIL mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth to age five, helping foster early literacy, confidence and a lifelong love of reading. Thanks to the Friends of the Library, the Library Endowment Trust, and community supporters, more than 17,900 children currently receive books through this transformative program, now with a brand-new bilingual English/Spanish option.

The Summer Book Sale features a scaled-down version of the Friends’ winter event with gently used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records. While the Better Books room will not be included, the general sale selection is packed with finds for readers of all ages and interests.

The sale opens with a Members-Only Preview on Friday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. Anyone who became a member after July 1, 2025 is eligible to attend. The sale is open to the public Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9–10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free parking and air-conditioned shopping at the OKC Fairgrounds (3100 General Pershing Blvd., connected to the Modern Living Building).

Volunteers ages 14 and up are essential to the sale’s success, with cashier roles open to those 18 and older. While there is no early access for volunteers, they’re invited to take home unsold items during the Sunday evening giveaway from 6–7:30 p.m.

Payment is accepted by cash and all major credit/debit cards. Sales tax applies, and shoppers are encouraged to round up their total at checkout to support DPIL.

It is also important to note that The Friends of the Library are taking a short break from accepting book donations August 3–17, allowing them to prepare for the Summer Book Sale. Donations will resume after the sale wraps up and shelves are cleared.
